Journaling in Boise
“Teach me to number by days aright, that I may gain a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12)
This verse really speaks to me regarding the importance of numbering the days of my Sabbatical aright that I might gain all that God has for me. Clearly it is possible to number your days incorrectly! Life is short. Every day must count for what matters. I don’t want to waste my life or any of my days on idols or living in fear, discouragement, bitterness or any other toxic emotion. “It is for freedom that Christ has set me free!” I want to embrace and fully live in light of that way of life that Jesus has put within my reach.
Thank you God for your grace and mercy. I realize that you have been faithful when I often have not been. May that not be a contradiction any longer. I want to fully surrender every single area of my heart, mind…my whole life to your loving leadership. I love you and want more than anything to abide in your presence all the days of my life. Today I am with you as you are always with me…all this because we are friends!

Your blog, “Living My Short Life on Purpose” really resonated with me. I want so much to make every day count. Now that I have retired, I have considerable time alone at home. I do try to contact friends and gals I want to meet with to encourage and informally mentor, but schedules don’t always work.
My biggest battle is not giving in to discouragement and fear regarding my increasing memory loss. But I am determined to keep on loving and serving God and others as long as God gives me the ability to do so; this is my passion and joy. And I do keep asking Him for complete and wonderful healing. But no matter what the future holds, I will cling to Jesus. Best of all, He is carrying me. I want to make every day count for His kingdom and glory.

I pray that God will restore the years I’ve lost to “incorrectly” numbered days. I know he is big enough, I know he can–he can restore the years the locusts have devoured (Joel 2:25). Bill, I want my years back. As you put it, “I want to embrace and fully live in light of that way of life that Jesus has put within my reach.” Thanks for being a part of my quest for that light.

This blog, “Living My Short Life On Purpose” like Joyce expressed in her post this one really resonates with me also. I have reread it a few time over the last few weeks and each time this blog really reflects what I think God is calling me and His church to embrace, God centered lives. I dream that in my final moments here on earth I can say; “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Tim 4:7). This is no longer a dream, but a passion. There are times that it seems like we are all slaves to time, but light is our Father’s load for us and easy is His yoke (Matt 11:30). I pray that we as individuals and collectively as the body of God, live every moment to honor and glorify our worthy King.
Might we live the lives God has called us to. Might we follow the example given in James 4 and not boast about tomorrow because we really don’t know what the day holds, but instead say Lord your will be done in my life and in the world.
